How to Build a Museum

Museums provide a lot of benefits to Archaeology Kit players. It’s where the Docents can be found, so it’s where to find new missions, sell artifacts, and learn valuable information. Since it’s a museum, it’s also a great place to place artifacts so that your fledgling archaeologists can improve their skills by analyzing them.

Populating with Artifacts

To populate a museum with ‘real’ artifacts from this mod, you should:

  1. First use the hidden objects cheat in the console: bb.showhiddenobjects
  2. Find the artifacts you want to place, put them where you’d like in the museum.
  3. Shift-click on each artifact and select Validate from the cheat menu.
  4. For Relics, you can select Identify from the chat menu

Docents

Museum Docents answer questions about history and the museum’s exhibits, as well as act as representitives of the Simsonian Institute.

You will see Museum Docents at museums all day and most hours of the night. They will sit at computers, view the exhibits, and periodically give a walking tour of the museum. To help them make the tour more interesting, I like to put the exhibits in rows through the building so that they follow them one to the next.

If you add a front desk, they will tend it and answer the phone periodically.

You need to be acquainted with Docents in order to interact with them, but you don’t need to have a particularly good relationship.

Amenities

Since this mod tends to lead to you spending a lot of time in museums, I like to make it easier to do so. Aside from the obvious ammenities of bathrooms, and maybe a vending machine and a coffee maker, consider adding an excavation room or area. Provide some Archaeology Workbenches for museum customers to use, so that you don’t have to stop home first before submitting some artifacts for a mission or just to sell.

If I have the space, I add a whole cafeteria in the basement as a shoutout to the Milwaukee Public Museum that I used to visit as a child. If you have an Archaeology Club, put a clubhouse in the museum. Add some books as well!
